Hi all - odd thing I’ve noticed with my Accent since the spring. I used to get about 600-630km on a tank (depending on driving conditions, etc) in warmer spring and summer weather, but this year so far it’s been about the same as it was in the winter when it always dips from the colder temps / heavier wheels and tires. I.E. my economy in winter is usually 570km-580km in comparison with the same style of driving.
Any ideas why my economy didn’t go back up? The car has new plugs since it’s last big service a month and a half or two ago. I checked and cleaned the MAP sensor the other day, I’ve got lighter alloy rims on (the same rims I always use in the summer....lighter than my winter steelies), and the tires are all aired up to spec. I haven’t checked the air filter in a few months, but last time I checked it, it was fine...?
I’ve mostly been doing highway driving and am relatively sedate in my driving most of the time (not granny-spec, but not hoonigan). Is there something I am missing that would be keeping my economy lower than is usually should be...?
Cheers or any suggestions / help! :)

I don’t think so? I didn’t get my winters taken off until really late this year (May 24th), so I was still running the exact same winter tires all Spring until 2.5 weeks ago. I know that means I had the same heavier rims and tires on, but the warmer temps usually make a big difference in economy and it’s barely gone up or changed at all, even since I put the summer tires/alloys on.

spark plugs due, oil changes, diff oil, trans oil.....

other then that, I go nothing.

Oil change is due pretty much now, yes. I just have to book an appointment for it, but the oil level is not low.
Not sure about gearbox oil (manual trans). Bearings were checked on my last service as I thought a grinding I was hearing was one, but turned out to be a brake backing plate just occasionally rubbing, so not bearings. Spark plugs were changed not long ago as well. Filter hasn’t been changed, but it was OK last time I looked at it...?

5% change? Did they start using a “summer” gas mix in your area for emissions reasons? I notice I get slightly worse mileage on the summer spec gas we get out here...

How many miles on your car? Over time you will have buildup within the engine, especially the combustion chamber which can lower compression, and thus reduce power and cause your mileage to go down.

They do a summer blend here, so yes, that’s possible...or at least probably a contributer, but I always had a lot better mileage in the summer compared to the winter, so it’s odd if it’s making it go down now...?

Just ticked over 140,100km. I don’t rev it up a lot to give it ‘Italian tuneups’, but maybe I should. I did run some Seafoam motor treatment through the fuel system while back, but none of the intake stuff? Would something like that clean up the deposit in the combustion chambers a bit better? Going to put some Fuel Injector cleaner in it next fill-up as well. I cleaned the MAP sensor the other day and the air filter checks out...

yeah... if they always have used it then there shouldn’t be a change...

Seafoam in the gas tank doesn’t much, if it does anything at all. You should instead run BG 44k in the tank. The main reason I was asking about mileage was so I would know whether an engine flush would be a good or bad idea. With only 90k miles on the clock I would say it’s safe to do an engine flush with BG EPR. Even if you don’t do your own oil change you can do this yourself by just adding the EPR to your oil, idle for 10-15 minutes, and throwing in a few minutes of idle around 2000 RPM, and then have the shop change the oil. I would do that for the next few oil changes to clean out the oil side of the engine. Do that along with the fuel system cleaner and I think your engine will be as clean as you can get it without doing a tear down.

I’ll have to see if I can find some of that stuff in the local stores and give it a shot....never heard of it actually!
